Online Academy Client, Chris, Takes His On Field Production To Another Level With Bat Speed Training

I want to tell you about a remote client named Chris

Chris reached out to me this spring completely lost

So many voices in his head about this swing, or that swing

He got completely infected with the online mind virus of swing mechanics

He needed help

So I did what I do.  I gave him HIS swing back

With a focus on building more bat speed and making him more athletically adaptable at the plate the results were AMAZING

Client Background

  • Age: 15
  • Position: High School Baseball Player
  • Experience: 5 years
  • Objective: Increase bat speed to enhance hitting performance

Initial Assessment

The client started with an average bat speed of 65 mph. His stats showed promise, but there was room for improvement, especially with his power and abilty to produce extra base hits.

Training Program

The remote training program focused on several key areas:

  1. Strength Training:
    • Exercises: Focus on compound movements like deadlifts, squats, and bench presses.
    • Schedule: 3 days a week, with progressive overload.
    • Goal: Increase overall body strength, particularly in the lower body and core, to enhance power transfer during the swing.
  1. Bat Speed Drills:
    • Overload/Underload Training: Using heavier and lighter bats to improve bat speed mechanics.
    • Swing Analysis: Video analysis to identify mechanical inefficiencies and areas for improvement.
    • Speed Drills: Incorporating med balls, aqua bags, resistance bands and other tools to increase swing explosiveness.
  1. Nutrition and Recovery:
    • Diet Plan: Focused on lean proteins, complex carbohydrates, and healthy fats to support muscle growth and recovery.
    • Recovery Protocol: Emphasis on proper sleep, hydration, and post-workout recovery techniques like foam rolling.

Progress and Results

Over the course of three months, the client consistently followed the training program. Regular assessments showed a gradual increase in bat speed:

  • Initial Bat Speed: 65 mph
  • After 1 Month: 66.5 mph
  • After 2 Months: 67.8 mph
  • Final Bat Speed: 68 mph

This increase in bat speed by 3 mph led to significant improvements in the client's on-field performance:

  • Batting Average: Increased from .275 to .320
  • Slugging Percentage: Increased from .400 to .475
  • Home Runs: Increased from 2 to 5 in the season
  • RBI (Runs Batted In): Increased by 15%

Conclusion

The 3 mph increase in bat speed translated into more power and better hitting consistency.

The client not only saw improvements in statistical categories but also felt more confident and effective at the plate. The combination of strength training, bat speed drills, flexibility work, and proper nutrition played a critical role in achieving these results.

This case study highlights the importance of a comprehensive training approach tailored to individual needs and goals.
